[01] PM Karamanlis to address Business Awards 2008 ceremonyPrime minister Costas Karamanlis will address a ceremony on Monday evening at the Megaron-Athens Concert Hall, during which the annual entrepreneurship awards of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industries (EBEA) for 2008 will be presented.The 13th annual Business Awards ceremony, which begins at 8:00 p.m., will also be attended by President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias. The award categories are for export activity, total quality systems, brand-name products, international activity, innovation or production of new innovative products, sensitivity on environmental issues, commendable social responsibility, increase in employment, research and technology development, e-business, new entrepreneur, self-made businessmen, and the "Business and Tradition" prize for long-standing businesses. The awards, according to EBEA (or ACCI in English), were established in the belief that public recognition and praise to individuals and companies that achieve distinction in business may encourage and motivate entrepreneurial initiative and the practice of economic activity. (ANA-MPA) [02] Greece braces for heatwaveA scorching week is expected in Greece, as a heatwave has been predicted to hit most parts of the country.According to forecasts by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the hottest days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures climbing to 41 C, while the high temperatures are due to begin receding as of Thursday night. Consumers are warned that power outages may be expected throughout the heatwave due to an anticipated jump in demand. The Public Power Corporation (PPC) has appealed to consumers to limit the use of energy-consuming appliances during peak hours in the day. It added that, in the event that power cuts occur, they will be rotational by area, and of limited duration.
