[01] Greek, Turkish stock markets meet
The president of the Athens Stock Exchange and chief executive of
Hellenic Exchanges, Spyros Kapralos, on Wednesday met with a delegation
from Takasbank, the clearing and settlement agency of the Turkish
market, headed by Huseyin Erkan, chairman of Takasbank, and president
and chief executive of Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE).
During the meeting, the two sides presented their structures and
operations, while a broad discussion was made over changes in trading
practices and in the stock market sector, globally.
The meeting offered the chance to Takasbankâs and Hellenic Exchangesâ
representatives to examine ways of further broadening their
cooperation, and also to launching a joint stock market index between
Athens and Istanbul, aimed at creating a joint ETF to be traded in both
markets.
Karpalos said the stock market sector was rapidly changing and stressed
that Turkey was a large market in the area with great prospects and
strong growth rates. ?Cooperation, both in stock market and depository
levels, could only have positive effects to the growth of both
markets,? he said.
Mr Erkan said that the prospect of cooperation between ASE and ISE
would create new investment opportunities, boosting liquidity and
strengthen both countriesâ markets. The cooperation prospect will be
discussed during a new meeting to be held in Istanbul.
