[01] PASOK on labour relations
Main opposition PASOK spokesman George Papaconstantinou on Thursday
accused the government of "dismantling labour relations" while
referring to an economy and finance ministry's amendment to the
money-laundering bill, introducing a tougher employment regime for
newly-hired staff in loss-making state enterprises, which was voted by
Parliament earlier in the day.
The spokesman reiterated that the amendment voted "presents serious
problems regarding its conformity with the constitution and EU
legislation."
"But the most important is that it constitutes a bomb in the
foundations of social conquests," Papaconstantinou added.
He said that, according to PASOK's view, "public utilities which
contribute to social welfare are loss-making in Greece as is it is the
case in all Europe," and termed as "misleading the effort by the
finance minister to put on to the workers' shoulders the utilities' bad
management."
The PASOK spokesman also termed as an "extremely positive development"
a Turkish Constitutional Court's rejection of a petition for banning
Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling Justice and
Development (AKP) party.
"This development is positive as regards both Turkey's stability and
the stability in the broader region," Papaconstantinou told reporters
at his daily briefing, adding that the ruling also "helps towards
defusing the crisis which broke out in EU-Turkish relations recently."
