[01] PASOK on state of economy
Main opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) party spokesman
George Papaconstantinou, referring to the economy on Monday, said that
the government is moving with Olympic Games rhythms and is contesting a
gold medal in taxation and a world record in the dissolution of the
economy and of expectations for the economy.
The spokesman added that on August 15 in 2007, and while the country
was burning, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis had called for a fresh
popular mandate to prepare the budget and had received it, while
Finance and Economy Minister George Alogoskoufis stated a few months
later that the economy has been shielded, and now in the middle of 2008
the budget is in a state of a full collapse and a new tax raid has
already begun.
Stressing that "the worse is yet to come," Papaconstantinou said that
"we are saying that this economic policy must change, but it is evident
that it can change with a PASOK government."

[02] KKE against EU initiative
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) said, in an announcement on Monday,
that an immigration pact being promoted by the French EU presidency
with the support of the Greek government, is an "accumulation of
barbaric and inhuman measures and it is in harmony with the reactionary
character and the anti-popular role of the EU."
"The waves of migrants are not heading for the countries of the EU
through lack of information, as the Interior minister claims. They are
forced to resort to the slave traders due to the desperate situation
that they are facing in their countries, due to exploitation and the
imperialist wars in which the EU is also participating and playing a
leading role," KKE claims.
