[01] PASOK leader addresses TIF
The country was going through a deep crisis, that disappointed and
aggrieved the people, main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou
said on Saturday, and lambasted the government on its policy across the
board, during his address at the 73rd Thessaloniki International Fair
(TIF).
The crisis, he continued, was not only an economic one, but also a
political crisis, and a crisis of values.
The international crisis, he said, was not to blame for most of the
daily problems faced by the Greek people, but rather the failed choices
of the New Democracy government, which had opted for the concentration
of wealth in the hands of the few.
Greece had taken a downturn towards bankruptcy in all sectors. Althoug
a country of wealth, the economy, the education sector, social security
and other sectors were heading to bankruptcy.
A common effot was needed to exit from the crisis, Papandreou said,
adding that the first step needed to be taken by the State, which would
give the example of a different governance of the country, to enable it
to move forward, and outlined his party's platform for governing the
country, expressing certainty that PASOK would be the next government.
