[01] Papoulias lays wreath at Metsovion Polytechnic

Earlier, tribute was also paid by Education Deputy Minister Spyros Taliadouros.

The gates of the Polytechnic will close at 2.00 noon and the main commemorative event will begin. Professors, students and social and trade unions' representatives will remain inside the premises to guard the Polytechnic.

The annual march will start at 3:00 p.m. and will end outside the US embassy in central Athens. Police are taking stringent security measures to safeguard along the streets in which the demonstrators will march, while the circulation in streets around the Polytechnic has been closed off since early Monday morning

[03] Athens Stock Exchange: Plunge

Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the heaviest losses in Banks, down 4.97 percent; Construction, down 4.89 percent; Telecommunications, down 4.75 percent; Technology, down 4.14 percent; and Oil and Gas, down 3.79 percent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 4.02 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 2.24 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 1.38 percent.

Of the stocks moved, 29 were up, 109 were down, and 19 were unchanged.
