[01] ASE trading opens with rise
Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Thursday, the
first trading session of 2009, on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with
the basic share price index up 1.35 percent, standing at 1,810.60
points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 5.6 million euros.
Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest
gains in Health, up 3.53 percent; Banks, up 2.55 percent; and Food &
Beverage, up 1.81 percent.
The biggest losses were in Mass Media, down 3.24 percent; and
Construvction, down 0.86 percent.
The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up
1.53 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.13 percent, and the
FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0368 percent.
Of the stocks moved, 54 were up, 9 were down, and 40 were unchanged.
