[01] Iraklion airport takeover suspendedThe Cordinating Committee of the Cretan Farmers on Wednesday called off their take-over of Nikos Kazantzakis airport in Heraklion.The commitee will fly to Athens to meet with Agriculture Minister Sotiris Hatzigakis. The farmers' takeover of the airport began on Tuesday noon, resulting in the cancellation of a large number of flights. [02] ASE opening: Sharp declineEquity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 2.54 percent, standing at 1,610.60 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 13.5 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving downward nearly across the board, with the only gains in Commerce, up 1.67 percent. The heaviest losses were in Insurance, down 5.06 percent; Banks, down 3.82 percent; Construction, down 3.50 percent; Oil & Gas, down 3.41 percent; and Health, down 3.14 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 2.96 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 1.95 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.92 percent. Of the stocks moved, 11 were up, 63 were down, and 34 were unchanged. [03] Farmers roadblocks continueFarmers' mobilizations continued on Wednesday throughout the country with roadblocks and protests.The Athens-Thessaloniki national highway is closed at Tempi, central Greece, and the Mikrothebes intersection. Farmers with tractors have also closed from Tuesday noon the Greek borders with Bulgaria at the Promachonas frontier crossing. At Kilkis the local farmers have gathered at the city's entrance, but without causing any disruption to vehicle circulation. On Crete, the farmers' coordinating committee suspended the occupation of Nikos Kazantzakis airport in Iraklion, which was blocked from Tuesday noon resulting in the cancellation of a number of flights. Moreover, farmers on Crete are continuing the blockade of the highway connecting Crete's major cities of Chania and Heraklion and have occupied two buildings housing local financial services.
