    Equity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 1.03 percent, standing at 1,522.836 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 9.2 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the biggest losses in Banks, down 2.03 percent; Telecoms, down 1.66 percent; and Raw Materials, down 1.35 percent.

    The biggest gains were in Mass Media, up 1.31 percent; and Public Utilities, up 1.02 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 1.41 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.77 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.26 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 15 were up, 50 were down, and 14 were unchanged.

    Government's new bill on collection agencies, which will be renamed "debtor information companies" and will not collect monies but simply inform consumers on their overdue debts, the clash between government and businessmen on the on the layoffs, and New Democracy former Prime Minister and honorary party president Constantinos Mitsotakis' recommendations to PM Costas Karamanlis not to proceed to early elections dominated the headlines on Thursday.
