[01] Int'l group lobbies for Hagia Sophia liturgy
The head of an international effort to restore the Hagia Sophia in
Istanbul as a Christian place of worship on Thursday said affiliated
groups want to hold a liturgy on Sept. 17, 2010 in the venerable
Byzantine-era basilica, a pre-eminent museum today in the Bosporus
metropolis.
Chris Spyrou, a noted Greek-American political leader from New
Hampshire who heads the International Congregation of Agia (Hagia)
Sophia organisation, said his group has also sent a relevant letter to
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan inviting him to attend the
liturgy.
Spyrou spoke at a news conference in Athens on Thursday.
[02] Industrial turnover index down 27.8% in July
(ANA-MPA) -- Greeceās composite turnover index in the industrial sector
dropped by 27.8 pct in July, compared with the same month last year,
the National Statistical Service said on Friday.
The statistics agency attributed the sharp decline to a 34.8 pct fall
in the mining turnover index and a 27.7 pct fall in the manufacturing
turnover index.
The new orders index dropped 33.7 pct in July, after an increase of
11.0 pct recorded in July 2008.
