  • [01] Terrorist suspect remanded in custody

One of the four young people arrested by the police counter-terrorism squad last week after the discovery of a safehouse belonging to a terrorist group in the northern Athens suburb of Halandri was remanded in custody pending trial after a marathon testimony on Tuesday before an examining magistrate.

A second detainee was released under restrictive conditions, and the other two are due to testify on Thursday after seeking and receiving an extension.

Emmanuil Yiospas, 20, was remanded in custody after a marathon testimony that lasted from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to an hour past midnight, while Myrto Panteloglou was released on restrictive conditions, including prohibition of leaving the country and appearing at a police station twice a month.

The other two, Panayiotis Masouras and Harilaos Hatzimichelakis, will testify on Thursday.

All four are suspected members of the "Conspiracy of Fire Cells" terrorist group.
