    (ÁÍÁ-MPA) -- Credit conditions worsened significantly in 2009, compared with 2008, official figures showed on Friday. A regular report by Teiresias SA, Greece's banking market support services agency, said bounced checks more than doubled, both in value and volume, last year to 3.0 billion euros and 304,377, respectively, up from 1.2 billion euros and 118,036 in 2008.

    Bounced checks totaled 17,791 in December, up 13.64 pct from December 2008, worth 174.1 million euros, up 2.29 pct over the same period, respectively.

    Unpaid bills totaled 152,779 units in 2009, worth 250 million euros, while in December, volume was up 49.1 pct and value soared 72.7 pct.

    [02] Inflation at 2.6% in Dec.

    BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA) -- Greek inflation jumped to 2.6 pct in December, up from 2.1 pct in November, Eurostat announced on Friday.

    The EU executiveâs statistics agency, in a report, said the inflation rate in the Eurozone rose to 0.9 pct in December from 0.5 pct in November, but remained below an 1.6 pct reading in December 2008, while in the EU, the inflation rate rose to 1.4 pct from 1.0 pct and 2.2 pct over the same periods, respectively.

    Ireland (-2.6 pct), Estonia (-1.9 pct) and Latvia (-1.4 pct) recorded the lowest inflation rates in December, while Hungary (5.4 pct), Romania (4.7 pct) and Poland (3.8 pct) the highest inflation rates.

    The inflation rate fell in two member-states in the December-November period, it was unchanged in four states and rose in 20 EU member states.
