[01] PM: No problem with Greek banking system, depositsBRUSSELS (ANA-MPA) -- Prime Minister George Papandreou, speaking at a press conference here Friday at the end of a EU Summit, emphasised that "there is no problem with Greece's banking system or bank deposits," while again dismissing press speculation that the country will exit the euro-area."We won a very important decision (on Thursday evening) and we must rise to the occasion," he stated, adding that "we gave and are continuing to give a difficult battle, not just for short-term benefits, but to create a strong Greece, one that does not only overcome difficulties but also sets an example." [02] Vergina royal necropolis restoration projectA restoration project of the royal mecropolis and the palace-city of Aigai within the larger archaeological site of Vergina, north-central Greece, will be financed with seven million euros by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF).Vergina is the burial site of ancient Macedonian kings, including the tomb of Philip II. The project, scheduled to be completed by 2013, includes beautification works to further promote the archaeological site. [04] Stocks surge 4.12% on Fri.Stocks soared as investors welcomed decisions by the European Central Bank to maintain loose lending criteria to Greek banks and by a eurozone summit on Thursday to create a financial support mechanism for the country. The composite index of the market ended at 2,147.83 points, up 4.12 pct with turnover rising to 285.006 million euros.The FTSE 20 index jumped 5.55 pct, the FTSE 40 index ended 2.79 pct higher and the FTSE 80 index rose 2.79 pct. Banks (8.42 pct) and Chemicals (4.36 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains of the day, while the Food sector was the only one to record losses (2.56 pct). Yalco (20.0 pct), Medicon (17.22 pct), Altec (13.33 pct), Eurobank (12.68 pct) and AEGEK (11.36 pct) were top gainers, while Desmos (9.09 pct), Marak (7.69 pct) and Olympic Catering (6.96 pct) were top losers.
