[01] PM briefs President on EU support mechanismANA-MPA/Prime minister George Papandreou on Monday briefed President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias on the outcome of the government's negotiations with the troika of European Commission, European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials in Athens and the eurogroup's decision to activate a three-year 110 billion euros support plan for the Greek economy during an urgent meeting in Brussels on Sunday following a second package of austerity measures unveiled by the government."We took difficult but necessary decisions for the country. Fortunately, the EU responded and is giving us a breather and a time period of calm for the great changes the country needs, while at the same time our government will protect the socially weak groups with a safety net and place emphasis on the country's developmental course," Papandreou said upon arrival at the Presidential Mansion for his meeting with Papoulias. The President, in turn, said that the Greek people will respond to the effort, but added that they need to be convinced that there will be justice, that tax evasion will be stamped out, and called for the punishment of all those who gained wealth at the expense of the Greek people. [02] Virtual tour of Cyclades at Syntagma Square metro stationThe Cyclades prefecture is organising a series of events at the Syntagma Square metro station in downtown Athens from 3-7 May aiming to showcase and provide information to the public on the beauty of the 24 islands of the Cyclades complex.The Cyclades Chamber of Commerce will participate in this initiative by taking visitors on a virtual tour of the beauties, the tradition, the culture and the businesses of Cyclades via the portal www.e-kyklades.gr and by distributing information material. [03] ASE opening: RiseEquity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Monday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.64 percent, standing at 1,881.60 points at 11:00 a.m., and turnover at 37.508 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Personal Goods, up 3.52 percent; and Banks, up 2.57 percent. The biggest losses were in Food and Beverages, down 2.11 percent; and Oil, down 1.45 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.64 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 2.09 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 1.08 percent.
