[01] Retrospective exhibition of paintings by Loukas VenetouliasA retrospective exhibition of the paintings by Loukas Venetoulias (1930-1984) marking the 80th anniversary of the Thessaloniki-born artist's birth opened Monday at the Thessaloniki Municipal Art Gallery, in the context of the annual Dimitria Festival.The exhibition, titled "Critical Realism", showcases 140 representative works by the artist, from his early works after he graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts to his death in 1984. He studied under Yiannis Moralis and Spyros Papaloukas at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1953-58), and in 1971 he was awarded a Ford Foundation grant. Venetoulias was one of the founding members of the Association of Visual Artists of Northern Greece, and served as vice president of its board of directors. His works have been exhibited in one-man shows and group shows in Cyprus, the US, Belgium and elsewhere. Venetoulias also made a name for himself as a set designer and book illustrator. His better known works include "Via Egnatia", "The Fix Brewery" (1962), "Junk Shop" (1969), "Ajax" (1972), "Dedicated to Mondrian" (1973), "Santorini", "Old Woman and Young Girl", "Building Site", and "Vardaris Square" (1981). More details on the subscriber's page of APE-MPE | Subscription request form [02] ASE opening: DeclineEquity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 1.88 percent, standing at 1,468.38 points at 11:00 am, and turnover at 12.982 million euros.All individual sector indices were moving downward with the biggest gains in Commerce, up 1.12 percent; and Public Utilities, up 0.40 percent. The biggest losses were in Banks, down 2.71 percent and in Travel and Recreation, down 2.23 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 2.01 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.76 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.41 percent. Of the stocks traded, 12 were up, 51 were down, and 16 were unchanged.
