    Samos and Halkidiki are among the five most popular tourist destinations in Greece, according to the results of an on-line vote for tourist prizes that were awarded on Thursday night in the framework of the Philoxenia exhibition, in Thessaloniki.

    Following a vote held through the website of Helexpo's exhibition agency, the five most popular seaside Greek destinations for 2010 are Samos, Crete, Lefkada, Santorini and Halkidiki.

    ANA-MPA/The five most popular mountain destinations are Old Agios Athanasios in Pella, the Zagorohoria, Mount Olympus, Mt. Parnassos and Mt. Pelion.

    The five most popular cities are Nafplio, Athens, Volos, Thessaloniki and Ioannina.

    Also, the five most popular ski resorts are Vassilitsa in Grevena, Tria-Pente Pigadia in Imathia, Mt. Voras (Kaimaktsalan) in Pella, Mt. Parnassos, and Seli in Imathia.

    The most popular foreign destinations chosen by Greeks are Spain, Austria, Britain, France and Italy.

    The competition takes place for the fifth consecutive year and the awards were presented, after Philoxenia's inauguration ceremony, by Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos.

    [02] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.35 percent, standing at 1,508.03 points at 11:15 am, and turnover at 13.906 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving upwards, with the biggest gains in Insurance, up 5.05 percent; and Health, up 1.17 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Food and Beverages, down 1.18 percent and Oil and Gas, down 0.52 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.75 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.66 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.29 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 44 were up, 18 were down, and 17 were unchanged.
