[01] Excavation works on ancient shipwreck off Nea Styra

The ancient vessel was loaded with amphorae, considered extremely interesting, as the cargo, along with wooden remnants. The latter's presence indicates that the vessel also transported high-value products, possibly sculptures in whole or in parts.

Amphorae Brindisi and vases filled with foods and wines, bronze and iron nails and small parts of copper statues of natural size, along with two legs of a day-bed, were collected and lifted from the vessel.ana-mpa

The wreck was located in 2007 at a depth of 40 to 45 metres. Thirty-six divers, researchers, archaeologists, photographers, architects and other experts took part in the underwater excavation.ana-mpa

The research was organised by the Maritime Antiquities Ephorate and the Institute of Maritime Archaeological Research.ana-mpa

Excavation works will continue and in 2011.

[02] Foreign Ministry on Korea conflict

Foreign Ministry spokesman Grigoris Delavekouras in a statement Tuesday stressed that Greece "is watching with concern the latest developments in the Korean peninsula and the aggressive attitude of North Korea that, according to reports, caused the loss of human lives in South Korea."Ana-Mpa

"Greece unequivocally condemns this act which undermines the region's peace and stability," Delavekouras said and also welcomed the efforts of the President of South Korea for a de-escalation of the crisis and called on the North Korean government to respond accordingly.

[03] ASE opening: Decline

Individual sector indices were moving downwards, with the only gains in Oil, up 0.27 percent.

The biggest losses were in Media, down 2.91 percent and Health, down 2.22 percent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.85 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.81 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.25 percent.

Of the stocks traded, 20 were up, 46 were down, and 17 were unchanged.
