  • [01] Citibank closes 31 branches

    ANA-Mpa/Citibank announced a large scale restructuring of its activities in Greece closing 31 branches out of a total of 72 branches in its network in the country. A bank announcement said the decision was part of a general strategy for the restructuring of its presence in Greece amid a current economic crisis which has affected the main sectors of the domestic banking market, ana-mpa/particularly retail banking. The aim is for the bank to focus on operations with comparative advantage, such as asset management and credit cards, where Citibank has a leading share in the market. Citibank said the program did not envisage dismissals in its workforce but a voluntary retirement plan.

    [02] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.45 percent, standing at 1,457.38 points at 11:15 am, and turnover at 8.825 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving upwards, with the biggest gains in Oil, up 1.24 percent; and Telecoms, up 0.75 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Health, down 1.52 percent and Financial Services, down 1.26d percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.51 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.10 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.25 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 39 were up, 34 were down, and 24 were unchanged.
