  • [01] Italy-bound truck loaded with bootleg cigarettes intercepted in Patras

    (ANA-MPA) -- Thousands of bootleg packs of cigarettes were discovered in a truck driven by a 58-year-old man, who was arrested at the port of Patras, western Greece, on Thursday.

    The lorry was in line to board an Italy-bound ferry boat from the port. The total cargo of bootleg cigarette packs exceeded 274,000 packs, including well-known brand names.

    Port authorities said the cigarettes were hidden in pallets and beneath a declared cargo of plastic vases, all packaged in plastic.

    [02] Contraband cigarettes seized

    More than 250,000 packs of contraband cigarettes were seized in the port of Patras on Friday concealed in an Italy-bound truck, and the 58-year-old driver was arrested.

    Port authorities found 274,760 packs of cigarettes of various brands hidden in a truck that was due to board a ship headed for Italy, during a routine check.

    The cigarettes were concealed beneath plastic flower-pots.
