[01] Train derails in southern Greece, one fatality
(ANA-MPA) -- A train derailment on Thursday evening on an
up-until-recently suspended route in southern Greece resulted in one
fatality.
A one-coach train travelling on the infrequent Kalamata-Tripolis-Argos
route derailed at roughly 10 p.m. local time near the village of
Andritsa, in the central part of the Peloponnese province.
Initially three people were trapped in the wreakage. The train was
either carrying three passengers and four Hellenic Rail (OSE) employees
or four passengers and three employees.
Private cranes were at the site on Friday morning to remove the
wreckage.
The specific rail line had been renovated a year ago before reopening,
after being suspended in 2004.
