    Greek education minister Anna Diamantopoulou will be on London on Wednesday for a two-day visit and contacts with British officials on education issues.

    On Wednesday night, Diamantopoulou will deliver a lecture at the Greek Observatory of the London School of Economics on the theme "Reforming the Greek Universities".

    The minister will give a press conference in the British capital on Thursday.

    [02] ASE opening: Big rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 1.78 percent, standing at 1,621.61 points at 11:15 am, and turnover at 32.08 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving upward nearly across the board, with the only losses in Telecoms, down 2.12 percent.

    The biggest gains were in Health, up 5.48 percent; and Chemicals, up 3.86 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.68 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.50 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 2.36 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 86 were up, 13 were down, and 11 were unchanged.
