[01] Greeks safely evacuated from Libya

The first C-130 to return from Tripoli landed late on Thursday night with 88 Greeks on board, who described the situation in Libya as "tragic" and stressed their relief to be home. Foreign ministry general secretary Ioannis Zepos underlined the difficulties in the operation to ensure their safe return, including the difficulty they had boarding the planes.

(ANA-MPA) The second and third C-130 planes, carrying 83 evacuees from Tripoli and 45 evacuees from Surt, respectively, arrived shortly after midnight.

The injured man, who had been shot on Wednesday afternoon, arrived in the second plane and was taken straight to hospital. Authorities said that his condition did not engender concern.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis, who had travelled out to Libya on the C-130s in order to coordinate the evacuation operation, spoke of harrowing scenes "not easy to describe" and warmly praised the Greek armed forces for their assistance in returning Greek nationals home.

(ANA-MPA) "It is not easy to describe the scenes we saw and the way in which our people managed to hold out these days. I am proud of my country," he said.

Ten Greeks are still trapped in a location deep in the Libyan desert, along with a group of Cypriots and other EU citizens. The Greek government is currently making efforts in coordination with the governments of other countries to ensure their safe return.(ANA-MPA)

[02] Burglars make off with jewelry worth 29,000 euros from jewelry store

The burglars initially broke into a next-door butcher's shop and demolished the wall between the two shops, before grabbing jewelry and wristwatches worth 29,000 euros.

They left behind the burglary tools used in the jewelry shop, which were confiscated and are being examined by police.

[03] Greek ships continue evacuation of third-country citizens from Libya

The first ship, the Hellenic Spirit, arrived in Iraklion port just before 9:00 a.m., carrying some 2,120 evacuees, while the second vessel, the Olympic Champion, arrived in port two hours later with another 2,130 evacuees on board.(ANA-MPA)

The foreign nationals were put up in local hotels until arrangements are made for their return to their home countries.(ANA-MPA)

A Greek ferry boat arrived at the port of Irakleio on Crete on Saturday morning with another 2,800 third country nationals evacuated from strife-torn Libya. Most of the foreign nationals were identified as Chinese citizens.(ANA-MPA)

Several thousand Chinese nationals have already been ferried from Libya to Crete, where they are being hosted until their repatriation.(ANA-MPA)

Meanwhile, the first flights to China carrying a total of 541 evacuees from Libya departed from Hania airport on Saturday afternoon.(ANA-MPA)

According to the Chinese ambassador to Greece, the massive repatriation effort to transport Chinese evacuees from Libya via Greece will take an estimated 10 days.(ANA-MPA)

Approximately 13,000-15,000 Chinese nationals working in Libya will be evacuated by Greek vessels to Crete, where they will be put up in hotels before boarding charter flights back home, following a request by the Chinese government to Greece.(ANA-MPA)
