  • [01] Cabinet to discuss measures for center of Athens

    ANA-MPA/The Cabinet will meet on Monday afternoon, chaired by prime minister George Papandreou, to discuss a package of measures for upgrading the historic center of Athens and deal with violence.

    Earlier, the premier will hold talks with Athens mayor George Kaminis.ana-mpa

    In an interview appearing in TA NEA newspaper, Kaminis outlined specific proposals, warning that the increasing use of violence in the city, as well as incidents of people taking justice into their own hands, posed a serious threat to Athens.

    [02] 28th Athens Fun Run

    ANA-MPA/The 28th Athens Fun Run, dedicated this year to the 2011 Special Olympic Games to be hosted in Athens, was concluded on Sunday at Syntagma Square. The start of the Fun Run was given by Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis at 10 a.m. in front of the all-marble Panathinaiko Stadium.ana-mpa

    The event was organised by the Youth and Sport Organisation of the Athens Municipality. A concert was held after the end of the event.

    [03] Arrests for child pornography

    ANA-MPA/A 15-year-old boy was among seven suspects -- six Greeks and one Polish national -- who were arrested on Monday in Athens and Evia island charged with child pornography via the internet.

    Attica electronic crimes squad officers digitally identified the users of the webpage following an organised operation.ana-mpa

    A search of the suspects' residences revealed 12 hard discs, a laptop and a modem that have been confiscated and are being examined.

    The arrestees were sent before Athens and Evia prosecutors.

    [04] Superleague playoffs results

    ANA-MPA/AEK Athens on Sunday beat PAOK 3-0 and took the lead after the conclusion of the third day of the Greek Superleague play-offs. Later, Olympiakos Volou beat Panathinaikos 2-1.
