[01] Gov't unveils modified deal for EU loans(ANA-MPA) -- The finance ministry on Tuesday unveiled the terms of a new modified agreement signed by Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou for the 80 million euros Greece has received from its Eurozone partners.A ministry announcement said that Greece had been asked to sign the new agreement around this time, after Eurogroup ministers on May 16 agreed (ANA-MPA) to extend the repayment period and lower the interest rate on the loans. It said that the agreement signed by Papaconstantinou will be tabled in Parliament for discussion and to inform MPs. After the signature by Greece, the agreement will be signed by each EU member-state contributing to the loans and once ratified by all member-states, the lower interest rate will be calculated backdated to the date of signature. It is expected to save 800 million euros in interest payments each year. (ANA-MPA) © ANA-MPA SA. Intellectual rights and copyright belong to the ANA-MPA S.A. The vessel was patrolling in the region at the time. The search and rescue coordination centre was informed early Saturday of a distressed vessel southwest of Crete with an unknown number of migrants and immediately alerted the Frontex vessel patrolling the area. The Frontex patrol boat spotted the vessel at noon on Saturday at a distance of 80 nautical miles west-southwest of Crete, and picked up the 94 people on board for transport to the Port of Piraeus. The Frontex vessel arrived at Piraeus on Sunday morning, where it disembarked the 94 people in the presence of port authority and police officials, which took the 90 illegal migrants into custody. The other four persons were arrested on charges of migrant-smuggling and will be taken before a public prosecutor. © ANA-MPA SA. Intellectual rights and copyright belong to the ANA-MPA S.A. The budget deficit was 9.1 billion euros in the January-May period last year. The finance ministry attributed this development to the fact that state budget revenues fell short by 1.936 billion euros, while spending fell by 734 million euros in the five-month period. Regular budget revenues, pre-tax returns, grew 4.7 pct in May, compared with the same month last year, with net revenues rising 1.3 pct, while net revenues in the January-May period fell 7.1 pct compared with 2010. The Finance ministry attributed its lower revenues to a deep recession in the last quarter of 2010, to non-repeating revenues from car registration fees, lower withholding taxes and higher tax returns. Regular budget spending grew 6.4 pct in may, with primary spending rising 4.3 pct, while spending by a Public Investment Programe dropped 47.3 pct. (ANA-MPA) © ANA-MPA SA.
