  • [01] FinMin Venizelos: No 'breakdown' of talks with 'troika'

(ANA-MPA) -- Finance Minister and government Vice-President Evangelos Venizelos on Friday denied same-day press reports claiming a "breakdown" in negotiations with the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) 'troika' or a rift with the 'troika', nor that an issue of additional measures had been put forward, speaking at an extraordinary press conference.

Venizelos said the discontinuation of the talks late Thursday had been "previously agreed", adding that the troika chiefs would return to Athens on September 14 for a second round of talks to review the draft budget for 2012. (ANA-MPA)

The government vice president and finance minister, who called the press conference at noon to present the outcome of the latest negotiations with the EC-ECB-IMF 'troika' that were suspended late Thursday night for 10 days, also said that there is no issue of new measures, and particularly measures of a "collection" nature, being taken.

Venizelos denied press reports of problems (ANA-MPA) or a rift in the discussions with the troika representatives, saying that those "have no relation to the reality".

[02] Impromptu 'happenings' around Athens to promote nat'l opera

Performers of the Greek National Opera wave to onlookers in central Athens, Greece, on Thursday afternoon. Performers break out in song at specific locations around the Greek capital while touring in the open-aired double-decker bus as part of a promotion of the opera's upcoming performances. Several such "happenings" are planned for this month throughout Athens. ANA-MPA / ALEXANDROS VLACHOS
