According to provisional results, the turnover Index in Wholesale Trade in the 2nd quarter 2011 compared with the 2nd quarter 2010 decreased by 10.8%. The index in the 2nd quarter 2010 compared with the 2nd quarter 2009 decreased by 5.1%.

The Turnover Index in Wholesale Trade in the 2nd quarter 2011 compared with the 1st quarter 2011 increased by 1.6%. The index in the 2nd quarter 2010 compared with the 1st quarter 2010 decreased by 1.2%.

He will also meet in Washington with US Congress officials and International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director Christine Lagarde.

Papandreou will being his itinerary of bilateral contacts the following day with a meeting with UN secretary Ban Ki-moon, after which he will meet with high-ranking representatives of the Jewish American organisations.

He will also have meetings with Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Cyprus president Demetris Christofias and with the leaders of the countries of the Middle East and other areas.

Papandreou will further attend the traditional reception for the heads of state and government attending the General Assembly that will be hosted by US President Barack Obama, and a luncheon to be hosted by the UN chief.

The Greek prime minister and SI president will chair a meeting of the Socialist International presidium on Friday, September 23, after which he will deliver an address to the UN General Assembly.

On September 19, Papandreou will attend a luncheon at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and that same evening will address a gathering at a hotel in Manhattan organised by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA).

During his stay in New York, Papandreou will give press conferences on the US media.

On September 22, he will attend a reception in his honor at the Greek Consulate General in New York that will be attended by Archbishop Demetrios of America, high-ranking officials of Greek-American organizations, academics, businesspeople and personalities of the Arts and Letters.

In between the New York events, Papandreou will fly to Washington on September 20 for meetings with IMF chief Lagarde and the leaders of the Senate Foreign Relations and House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committees.

Greek foreign minister Stavros Lambrinidis, who will be accompanying Papandreou to the US, will also have a series of sideline meetings in New York with his counterparts. Lambrinidis will represent Greece at several high-level meetings, as well at the customary EU foreign affairs ministers' meetings with their US and Russian counterparts.

[03] Warning to Turkey

"Cyprus is an independent member country of the UN and has the right to independently determine its interests alone or in cooperation with other countries," Pangalos stressed, referring to Turkish threats over explorations in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

He said it is a self-evident and firm position of Greece that any attack or military action against Cyprus is an attack or military action against Greece, adding that this was a fundamental principal of Greece's foreign policy and cannot change.

He said the Turkish government was doing very badly by intervening with arguments of intimidation, which "benefit Greece's credibility, given that our partners used to call us excessive", adding that the government is closely monitoring the matter.
