[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: Small declineEquity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 0.39 percent, standing at 695.21 points at 11:00 am, and turnover at 2.115 million euros.The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.68 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.05 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.19 percent. Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the only gains in Commerce, up 1.36 percent and Personal and Household Goods, up 0.94 percent. The biggest losses were in Construction, down 1.62 percent; and Telecoms, down 0.71 percent. Of the stocks traded, 18 were up, 22 were down, and 10 were unchanged. [03] 6th century BC underground aqueduct unearthed in MegaraAn underground aqueduct, constructed in the 6th century BC and apparently forming the initial part of the main ancient water supply system designed by ancient Greek hydraulic engineer Eupalinos of Megara was recently bought to light in excavations in a rural area in Megara by archaeologists of the Third Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities.amnaThe aqueduct, discovered in the Orkos area, comprises a network of shafts, cisterns and conduits that took advantage of the ground's natural downward slant ending up in the city's central water reservoir built in the 5th century BC, known as Theagenes' Spring or Fountain.amna The Fountain House, built by Eupalinos in the first half of the 5th century BC (circa 500 BC), probably stands in the same place where a century earlier (6th century BC) the tyrant Theagenes had constructed a smaller fountain house, and thus is known as Theagenes' Fountain (Spring). amna The front side of the building was occupied by a portico with five Doric columns, and at the back of this was a narrow cistern for the drawing up of water. Two more large cisterns, separated by a parapet, were used for the collection of water. The roof was supported by 35 octagonal columns made of poros stone, while the walls were built of large limestone blocks in the isodomic system.
