[02] Tsipras: Memorandum leads Greece to financial collapse

PARIS (AMNA/O.Tsipira) - Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) parliamentary group president Alexis Tsipras said here on Monday that the "policy of harsh austerity imposed by the Memorandum leads Greece to financial collapse and to a possible exit from the eurozone."

Addressing a press conference, Tsipras also said that a "contradiction exists with those who support that the Memorandum and the eurozone can go together."

The SYRIZA leader noted that the eurozone is a chain composed of seventeen links "and if one link brakes the whole chain will be destroyed."amna

"Therefore, those who believe that they can destroy Greece and the Greek people but keeping eurozone untouched, are completely irrational. Because we believe that we are obliged, vis-avis History, to safeguard the coherence of the European Union, and because we believe in the idea of the European integration, we are struggling for the social coherence in Europe," Tsipras added. amna

Responding to a relevant question, he said that if his party wins the June 17 elections, SYRIZA will fight for the formation of a left wing government.

Tsipras in Paris on Monday, will visit Berlin on Tuesday for bilateral contacts with the leaderships of the French and German left.
