    AMNA / The White House on Sunday issued a statement congratulating the Greek people for holding a closely watched election amid very difficult time.

    The statement called on Athens to quickly form a new government, one which can make "timely progress" while at the same time remaining "in the euro area while respecting a commitment to reform." www.amna.gr

    A laconic statement by the International Monetary Fund merely stated that "we take note of the election results in Greece and stand ready to engage with the new government on the way forward to help Greece achieve its objective of restoring financial stability, economic growth and jobs." amna

    [02] Tsipras after meeting Samaras: We'll remain in opposition

    AMNA--Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras, in statements after meeting New Democracy president Antonis Samaras on Monday, made it clear that he does not intend to join a coalition government led by ND, but instead his second-place party remain an "active and responsible" main opposition.amna

    He also made it clear, at the end of his statements, that his party will not accept an exploratory mandate to try and form a government, if he is contacted by the president of the republic at the end of the day, but will respect the voters' desires and their choice for a pro-bailout Greek government.
