[01] Framework agreement of 3-party coalition gov't unveiled
AMNA / An agreement among the three parties that formed the new coalition
government (New Democracy, PASOK and Democratic Left) was publicised
on Saturday.
The agreement foresees a full term (four years) and focuses on five
points, especially one over a renegotiation of the Memorandum and the
loan agreements.
Additionally, an emphasis will be given to social protection and policies
negatively linked with the Memorandum. along with immediate economic
priorities, a reference to immediately jump-starting growth.
The three parties cited the need for changes in the country's political
system and the massive public administration sector, along with measures
for the citizens' safety, combating illegal migration and foreign policy
issues. Regarding a review of the loan and bailout agreements, the main
aim is for an extension of the fiscal adjustment period for two years at
least, re-institution of labour collective contracts and restoration of
injustices against low pensioners. Additionally, the agreement foresees
relief measures for debt-swamped taxpayers, extension of the unemployment
benefit for a second year and a gradual increase of the taxable income
ceiling. The agreement also refers to a change in the extraordinary tax
property measure with another permanent and uniform tax, with efforts
to convince creditors that lay-offs are not needed in the public sector.
Regarding economic priorities, the three parties foresee a new taxation
system, abolition and merger of state organisations and entities without
layoffs as well as privatisations and greater efforts to combat corruption
and waste.
Finally, declaration of an Exclusive Economic Zone in Greek waters is
among the top priorities of the three-party agreement .
[02] Samaras won't attend EU summit
AMNA / New Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will not attend this Thursday's
EU summit in Brussels, as attending physicians advised the Greek leader
not to travel for a few days after his serious eye operation.
The country will be represented by Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos,
who will head up the Greek delegation, as well as outgoing Finance
Minister George Zannis and at least two other recently sworn-in

hospital where Samaras successfully underwent an operation to reattach
the partially detached retina in his left eye, emphasised that the medical
team judged that the Greek premier should avoid travel in the coming week,
while recommending a week of rest.amna
[03] Mini heat wave over the weekend
AMNA / Very high temperatures prevail in the weekend throughout the
country. The thermometer will reach in some areas 39C. According to
National Weather Service, in the regions of Macedonia and Thrace the
temperatures will reach 38C, in Western Macedonia however it will 3-4
degrees lower. On the Ionian islands, Epirus and the western parts of
the country as well as in Thessaly the thermometer will show 39C. A
light breeze over the island of the Dodecanese and the Eastern Aegean
will drop the temperature to 35C. Northerly winds will prevail all over
the country and will reach 6 on the Beaufort scale. In Athens the wind
will not allow the temperature to exceed 33C. Residents of Crete and the
Aegean islands will be the privileged ones due to the fact the higher
temperature will be 30C.
