  • [01] Gov't appoints new head of privatisation fund

    AMNA/ Greece's finance ministry on Wednesday announced that Takis Athanasopoulos has been appointed as the new president of the country's privatisation fund.

    Athanasopoulos, a professor at the University of Piraeus, previously served as vice-president of IOBE (the Institute for Economic and Industrial Research) and chairman of Public Power Corp. (PPC).

    The finance ministry, in a statement, also said that Yiannis Emiris, head of investment banking in Alpha Bank, will take over as chief executive of the fund.

    [02] Malta-flag cargo ship runs aground off Andros, crew uninjured

    AMNA/ A Malta-flagged cargo ship ran aground early Thursday morning on a rocky outlet off the island of Andros, resulting in a small take-in of water.

    All 10 crew members -- 8 Ukrainians and 2 Russians -- were safe and uninjured, and a Coast Guard vessel dispatched the scene was on stand-by to provide assistance if needed.

    The Harbor Authority told AMNA that the ship's owner company had hired a private diver to inspect the damage to the ship before a plan for its dislodgement was started.

    No marine pollution was reported. The cargo ship was sailing without cargo from Halkida to Romania.
