[02] FinMin: No further reduction of minimum wage

AMNA--The government will not need to take additional measures if the fiscal adjustment programme is strictly applied, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras assured during an interview on private Mega television station, and underlined that the government was no intention of further reducing the minimum salary, but left open the issue of layoffs in the public sector, which he said was a subject of discussion with the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) 'Troika' of Greece's international lenders.

"It is an open issue, put forward by the Troika. We ourselves would not want layoffs, and the progress regarding the mobility of civil servants is better than we expected. It is a difficult issue," Stournaras said.amna

Stournaras is due to meet with Administrative Reform Minister Antonis Manitakis on Tuesday to discuss the government's general commitments to the Troika pertaining to the reorganisation of the public sector.

[03] Capital Link Greek Shipping Conference on Wed. in Athens

AMNA--The latest developments in shipping and the alternative funding solutions aiming to generate capital will be the focus at the 4th Shipping Conference organised by Capital Link on Wednesday at the Athens Hilton.

According to Capital Link the number of banks active in the shipping sector has substantially decreased, however healthy programmes and companies can be funded.

Greek shipping remains important to the maritime economy, constituting approximately 20 percent of the world's shipping fleet. In spite of the volatile markets and economic downturn, Greek shipping professionals have consistently adapted to changing conditions, seeking out growth and opportunity rather than yielding to their circumstances, according to Capital Link, which adds that history has shown that opportunities may arise even when there is recession.

Roughly 1,000 delegates will participate in the conference as well as tens of shipowners, while Shipping, Maritime Affairs and the Aegean Minister Costis Moussouroulis is slated to be the inaugural speaker.amna

In the framework of the Conference the 'Capital Link Shipping Leadership Award' will be bestowed on Greek shipowner Nikos Tsakos who owns over 70 ships.amna

The Capital Link Greek Shipping Conference, titled "Navigating through Challenges and Opportunities", will not only cover the latest developments and trends in international trade, dry bulk commodities, and the energy markets - framed against the broader backdrop of the global economy - but also review the various funding alternatives for raising capital among listed and private shipping companies.
