[01] Ombudsman proposes low-cost improvements to ministriesAMNA -- Twelve ministries received a list of suggestions on Tuesday to reduce bureaucracy and increase efficiency in services to the public from Greek Ombudsman Calliope Spanou, who based her assessments on common citizen complaints to her office.Over half of the 80 resulting proposals call for easy changes in legislation that are low- or no-cost yet speed up procedures, add more transparency to processes and improve organisation without changes in current staff and means.amna Sample proposals include codifying the regulation on blue-collar professions, completing the building code regulations for certain archaeologically-sensitive areas, assisting mobile-impaired citizens in getting police (official state) identification cards issued, standardising answers to frequently-asked questions on insurance and pension issues and improving land registry operations. [02] Tsipras: ‘Greece should rely on its own vigor'AMNA -- Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras, addressing Parliament on the agricultural sector's problems, proposed that Greece "can even now start with the effort to rely on its own strength, instead of deceiving the people on the pharaonic investments that will supposedly save the country."Tsipras attacked the government's explanations on focusing on growth, as opposed to the main opposition's supposed hostility towards investments. He said, "you [PM Antonis Samaras] went to Qatar in the name of growth, but you did not dare to go up to Larissa or Iraklio to meet with the farmers and discuss their demands". amna He went on to say to the premier, "Do not pretend to be Pontius Pilate for the crucifying of our people, because you are the moral and natural perpetrator of their Golgotha. Do not pretend to be the man who personifies stability, because you represent instability." Venizelos PASOK party leader Evangelos Venizelos, speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, accused Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras of demagoguery and disastrous policy proposals that would lead to a ‘jungle'. He criticised Tsipras for a ‘deficit' in proposals that can be implemented since, as he said, he limited himself "to a cinema description of seas, mountains and the landscape and of starting his address with an "irrelevant" prologue and a promise that the people of the countryside have no need for whatsoever to remain on their land. amna Kouvelis The country's adjustment programme and ineffective measures should be changed and supplemented with new ones with the aim of the real economy being strengthened and growth procedures becoming functional, and the same should apply for problems facing the country's agricultural sector, Democratic Left party leader, Fotis Kouvelis, told Parliament during the debate on farmers problems. Kouvelis placed emphasis "on a policy that will lead to agricultural economy growth and the improvement in farmers' income," while he stressed the need "for all margins to be exhausted for arrangements that can reduce production costs and will improve the competitiveness of the Greek agricultural economy."amna Athens News Agency: News in English Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
