[01] Group of students return to Larisa safe and sound

The students were on a five-day trip to Austria and Hungary and were on their way to Budapest from Vienna.

Foreign minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, who was immediately informed of the incident, contacted his Hungarian counterpart and requested the assistance of local authorities to transfer the students to safe accommodation.amna

A group of officials of the Greek embassy in Budapest, headed by Greek Consul Yiannis Stamatelos, drove six hours to reach the area where the motor-coach and other vehicles were stranded, and when the weather conditions allowed it they escorted the students to a nearby hotel to spend the night.

The group is expected to arrive by road in Larisa on Saturday.amna
