[01] SYRIZA attacks ND, PASOK over the privatisation of power grid
operator ADMHE
ANA-MPA -- Main opposition leftist SYRIZA party attacked New Democracy
and PASOK on Tuesday regarding the bill on the privatisation of the
country's Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMHE), which the
government has submitted to the Parliament. "New Democracy and PASOK
will be held accountable for the crime," SYRIZA said in a statement.
According to SYRIZA, the government wants the discussion on the issue
to be concluded in just three meetings held by the production and trade
Parliamentary committee and then submit it to the plenary for voting.
New Democracy and PASOK "aim, by using a short process that annuls
any kind of Parliamentary and social control, to sell off key public
infrastructure, built through decades of sacrifices by the Greek people,
in the space of a few days." SYRIZA said that a private strategic
investor would have only one target, to maximize profit. It noted that
international experience had been revealing: "after last year's bid
to acquire ADMHE, the Chinese state electricity company acquired the
Portuguese operator (2012). Since then, not even one euro has been
invested in Portugal's transmission grid," SYRIZA said.
