[02] Shipowner Michalis Matados accused on money laundering in the armament kickbacks case

Shipowner and MIE company representative Michalis Matados, who is accused on bribery and money laundering, is expected to appear before investigators on the armaments kickback case on Thursday.

Matados' charges are related to the central role his company allegedly played in the case of submarines and for the movement of large sums of money provided for "payments for benefit of inventory".

According to information, investigators of the case have at their disposal new bank account data through which money from the armament programmes appear to have been laundered.

Swiss prosecutors are expected in early February to get testimonies from those already accused on kickbacks, including former defence minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, his wife Vicky Stamati, and his cousin Nikos Zigras.
