    ANA-MPA -- Prime Minister Antonis Samaras met on Friday with the president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Michel Platini to discuss relations between UEFA and the EU. Among others, the Greek premier informed Platini that Greece's premier league and second-division football stadiums will soon be able to legally modernise in order to meet UEFA specifications, with emphasis on spectator safety and service.

    The meeting was also attended by Alternate Environment Minister Stavros Kalafatis, who has prepared a plan to modernise existing football facilities in Greece, through a draft bill to be tabled in Parliament within the next few days. The bill is expected to pass through Parliament before Kalafatis steps down to begin his pre-election campaign for mayor of Thessaloniki.

    The draft bill will seek to resolve problems with existing football stadiums within urban areas that are used for premier league and second division professional football matches, which do not meeting UEFA specifications. Kalafatis said the measures will focus on improving safety features and structural features, as well as giving sports clubs the right to establish shop and other useful economic activities (photovoltaic panels on roofs, etc).10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma;color:#0F1419;

    The measures will include incentives to relocate to areas outside the town plan, impose fire safety and disabled access facilities and allow modifications to increase capacity by up to 30 pct.
