[01] Public sector union ADEDY holds 24h strike and rally in Athens
Public sector union ADEDY on Wednesday holds a 24hour nationwide strike
against the mobility scheme and possible layoffs in the public sector,
as the relevant draft bill of the Administrative Reform is being debated
in Parliament.
Workers will hold a rally at 11.00 at Klafthmonos square.
ADEDY in a statement referred to an "attack against labour rights and
the workers' acquis" and pointed out that "the troika has been asking
for a legislative amendment of the employees' rights to a lockout, for
the abolishment of wage rises every three years and the further cutting
of minimum wage."
It added that the "representatives of the European Commission, the ECB
and the IMF have demanded putting forward an anti-labour legislation
that creates insurmountable obstacles in the process of the unions
calling for a strike under the pretext of ensuring the majority of the
industry's workers."
Municipal workers federation POE-OTE, high-school teachers, hospital
doctors and court employees participate in the strike.
ADEDY has also called for a 48hour strike on March 19 and 20.
