[01] Greek film officially picked by Cannes Film Festival for special
screening
ANA-MPA - A Greek film directed by Panos Koutras will make its debut
at the 67th Cannes Film Festival, after being selected by officials to
be screened in the section Un Certain Regard.
"Xenia", Koutras' fourth full-feature film, is produced jointly by
100% Synthetic Films SA and Wrong Men, with six additional Greek and
French producers included, as well as three participating French
organisations. The film will be distributed in Greece by Feelgood
Entertainment.
The film describes the story of two brothers, 16 and 18, who go in search
of their Greek father following their Albanian mother's death. In their
quest, they travel from Crete to Thessaloniki and face relations between
them, issues of youth, a dream the must make reality and a country that
refuses to recognise them.
The film's inclusion in the international festival is "a happy moment
in its long and difficult production, which, like the film's heroes,
came face to face with a tough reality and the inherent difficulties of
a co-production," the director said. "I hope that this amazing event,
which gives us great joy, provides the beginning of the end of all of
the film's difficulties," he added.
"Xenia" will be released to French theatres on June 18 by Pyramide
Distribution.
