[01] SYRIZA mulling overtures to KKE, other leftist forcesANA-MPA -- The Political Secretariat of main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) on Friday unveiled a detailed and specific proposal for alliances with other leftist or green parties, including the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), which it has submitted to SYRIZA's central committee. The proposal, which will make overtures for collaboration to the broader area of the left and green politics with the aim of forming a majority government "able to overturn the current situation", is to be at the focus of a SYRIZA central committee session on Saturday and Sunday. In this, the political secretariat said that social-political alliances must be formed based on the major reforms envisaged in the party's policy platform and urges an invitation "to set aside the real but, in relation to the conjuncture, secondary differences between us and, together and severally, each of the political forces of the Left and Ecology, leftist socialists and popular forces that have separated from the coalition government parties, and of course former MPs." Among others, the proposal will also be extended to the opposition KKE party, which gained roughly 6 pct in recent European elections "without overlooking our many and important differences but considering more important the historic responsibility of the Left to express the majority of the people that are brutally stricken by memorandum policies". In an analysis of the recent European election results, meanwhile, SYRIZA's Political Secretariat expresses satisfaction with the outcome but concern over the rise of the far right. The report also indulges in some self-criticism over the party's mistakes and omissions, criticising what it called "excessive concentration" in the run-up to the elections and insufficient involvement of party organs, particularly stressing the need for a uniform expression of the party's political positions that did not allow arbitrary interpretations. [02] New Proastiakos extension links Oinoi to airport in 40 minutesANA-MPA -- The 21-km-long Oinoi-Halkida section of the Proastiakos suburban railway line went into operation on Friday, cutting the journey time from Oinoi to the airport to 40 minutes. Infrastructure, Transport & Networks Minister Mihalis Chryssohoidis inaugurated the line by boarding the Proastiakos train from Avlida Station and making the trip to Halkida with the rest of its passengers.Referring to the importance of the project, Chryssohoidis said that it will link the Athens metropolitan center with the rest of the region, noting that soon the Oinoi-Airport journey will be made in roughly 35-40 minutes. "We work hard every day for projects that will be productive and serve the citizens, mainly the those who suffer the most from the crisis. One step was to cut public transport fares and the other was to upgrade Proastiakos," he underlined. The 31-km-long Proastiakos electric railway Oinoi-Afidnes section will be ready by September, while the Athens-Afidnes section will be ready in the first quarter of 2015. During that time, the Oinoi-Tithorea section will go to operation gradually. The Athens-Halkida line serves 140,000 passengers annually and their number is expected to increase 40 pct after the electric railway will go to operation. It was also announced that Proastiakos stations throughout the electric railway network, which have been vandalised in recent years, are being restored and necessary repairs are underway.
