[01] DIMAR State Deputy Lykoudis to resign from party
ANA-MPA - Opposition Democratic Left (DIMAR) State Deputy Spyros Lykoudis
and another 25 members of the party's Central Committee confirmed late
on Monday they are leaving the party.
Their official resignations will be submitted this week, they said,
while Lykoudis will also decide what to do about his state deputy seat
(to resign it or become independent).
The 26, all of whom belong to Lykoudis' Reformation Trend movement,
made their decision during a meeting at a central Athens hotel. They
plan to call a national meeting within the next few weeks to agree on
future initiatives.
(DIMAR currently has 11 deputies in Parliament. In the May 2014
Europarliament elections, the party got 1.20% and did not elect an MEP.)
[02] Hospital staff to hold protest on Wednesday over new hospital
payments scheme
ANA-MPA - A draft law setting up a new hospital payments agency, the
Hospital Payment Systems Company SA, triggered a storm of protest from
doctors and staff in hospitals, whose unions announced protest actions.
The hospital doctors' union federation OENGE announced a work stoppage
starting at noon on Wednesday in protest against the measure and is
organising a protest rally outside Parliament at 12:30 on that day with
the Athens-Piraeus Hospital Doctors Union (EINAP) and the hospital staff
union federation POEDIN.
OENGE said that the creation of the new company marked the state's
complete withdrawal from funding the public health system and dismissed
the modifications made by the health minister as immaterial, finding that
"they do not change the essence of the drastic repercussions for patients,
hospitals and doctors."
