[01] SYRIZA welcomes investigation into MPs' bribery allegations issue
ANA-MPA -- Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) welcomed on
Monday an urgent preliminary investigation ordered by the country's
top prosecutor into statements alleging bribery of lawmakers made by
a party official.
SYRIZA spokesman Panos Skourletis cited a press report claiming
businessmen launched an alleged fundraiser to win the support of 180
MPs in parliament and ensure the election of the new president of the
republic.
The investigation was ordered to establish whether the crime of MP
bribery has been committed.
"We hope the belated investigation will shed light into this case. We
want the prime minister to assist the judicial procedure so that this
case is clarified," SYRIZA said in a statement.
[02] Dijsselbloem: decision on Greece by the end of the year
ANA-MPA -- A decision on what to do about Greece's programme will have
to be made by the end of the year, when the current programme comes to
an end, Eurogroup chairman and Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem
said on Monday as he was arriving for a Eurogroup meeting.
Asked whether he would recommend a precautionary credit line for Greece,
he noted that this was one possibility but noted that Greece was still
in the midst of the current programme "and a lot of work remained to be
done, with more disbursements still to be made if the Greeks commit to
the extra steps that they have to take."
"Before the end of the year, we will do new calculations on debt
sustainability, to see what the financing needs for the Greek government
are next year and the years after, and then we can see what is necessary,"
he added.
