  • [01] PM Samaras meets with Public Order Minister Kikilias

    ANA/MPA---Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on Monday met with Public Order and Citizen Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias.

    Kikilias briefed Samaras on his visit to the United States and his meeting with his counterpart, Attorney General Eric Holder, who is responsible for terrorism and security issues.

    Kikilias told Samaras that the US government welcomed the way Greece has been dealing with terrorism as well as its recent successes.

    "And also the common ascertainment that in a destabilized region, such as the Mediterranean basin and the Balkans, Greece is a pillar of stability and an effective ally in the effort of our European partners and the United States that are our allies in NATO for the stability in the region, for the finding of solutions to the problems related to security," Kikilias said exiting the premier's office.

    He also mentioned that the issue of jihadists is among the US priorities and that Greece was also cooperating in this and other matters, while there would be enhanced cooperation on this issue as far as information and screening were concerned.

    Regarding the reward for any information or evidence on the escaped convicted terrorist Christodoulos Xiros, he said that "there will be a proper time for everything; the announcements will be made by the State Department."

    He also noted that safety translates into economic and political stability.

    "We saw that with the positive results on tourism and the intention for investments in the country. All that is related to safety," he added.
