  • [01] The government does not concede to troika's unreasonable demands, PASOK spokesman says

ANA/MPA---"We must react to the unreasonable demands of the troika," PASOK spokesman Dimitris Karydis said in an interview with ANA-MPA on Wednesday.

"We cannot accept that there is a fiscal gap when we have a primary surplus and positive growth rates," he stressed adding that the reduction of pensions and the increase in retirement ages cannot be accepted either.

The fact that the government does not concede to the troika's unreasonable demands was the key message of the meeting between the two leaders, he noted.

Karydis underlined that "there is no ultimatum, but a hard and very difficult negotiation and upon its completion the troika will come to Greece. What is important is that we are in the last phase of a difficult and painful adjustment program that has lasted all these years. The negotiation carried out...concerns the evaluation of the final phase, and the new imminent agreement regarding the credit line for the support of the country from the European institutions in order to tap to markets, as well as the debt settlement... "

Karydis also called on the opposition to leave irresponsibility and populism aside and come into dialogue in order to have a united front in the interior of the country at that very critical and difficult phase for the country's course and economic recovery and the national reconstruction plan for the coming years.

PASOK spokesman reiterated that the country does not need elections. "We do not claim that the issue of the 180 deputies is considered 'closed', but it is positive that there is a sense of consensus and understanding that unites the majority of the Greek parliament."
