  • [01] EU Commissioner Moscovici in Athens on Monday

ANA/MPA---European Commissioner for Financial and Monetary Affairs Pierre Moscovici on Monday will arrive in Athens for a two-day official visit. It will be Moscovici's first visit to an EU country after the assumption of his responsibilities.

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will receive Moscovici in the presence of Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis. Afterwards, the EU Commissioner will tour an under construction metro station in Athens accompanied by Infrastructures, Transport and Networks Minister Mihalis Chryssohoidis.

Later, Moscovici will meet with representatives of social and productive agencies as well as with Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

On Tuesday, the EU Commissioner will have successive meetings with Development Minister Costas Skrekas, Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis and afterwards he will meet with the governor of the Bank of Greece (BoG) Yannis Stournaras.

"Moscovici's visit to Greece has a special symbolism," the EC representation in Greece said in an announcement adding that "The aim is, as Mr. Moscovici had stated, to show his support to Greece; that Europe and the eurozone are on Greece and its citizens' side on the reforms continuation course because the time has come for the final turn towards a long-awaited sustainable model of growth."
