[01] Potami will not join government of 'anti-Europeanists', Theodorakis
says
ANA-MPA -- The Potami party will not join a government of
"anti-Europeanists" nor a "soup" government, party leader Stavros
Theodorakis stressed on Wednesday during a live televised press
conference broadcast nationwide. He stressed that, as of next Monday,
there must be an "honest proposal for the Greek people" and that Potami
was ready to "step into the deep end" in terms of making changes and
the negotiations with Greece's creditors.
We are obliged to go to a second frame and talk responsibly about the
country's future, he added.
According to Potami's leader, the policy programme presented by main
opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras in
Thessaloniki last September was a "wish list". He also highlighted the
contradictory messages emerging from SYRIZA, noting that this was a
problem that its leader Alexis Tsipras must address as a priority.
Describing SYRIZA members Yiannis Dragasakis and George Stathakis as
"injections of reason" within SYRIZA, he said the positions they had
expressed at times were serious and "not far from those of Potami".
Theodorakis said Potami had a strong following and did not exclude
different opinions, while clarifying that the party's European orientation
was "non-negotiable". He also stressed for a "national consensus"
in Greece, after first seeking a small extension, urging the head of
whatever party came first in the elections to "call all the parties on
January 26 and seriously discuss the issue of the negotiation, which
will not involve unilateral actions and will have as its guideline the
common good and saving the country."
He noted that discussions "at gunpoint" were dangerous, since very
important decisions had to be made and not imposed from outside, and
that a responsible discussion with Potami must also include a social
state that will alleviate the suffering in society and a programme to
promote growth and deliver justice.
