  • [01] ND leader Samaras: Government is sending the country back to the memorandum

ANA/MPA---"As long as the uncertainty continues, the bill for the Greek people grows, because the government was not only playing theatre but was also losing time" said New Democracy (ND) leader and former prime minister Antonis Samaras to Saturday newspaper Agora.

Samaras reiterated that SYRIZA government never had a plan and that the "Thessaloniki programme" was a wishlist that has been abandoned a long time ago.

He expressed the opinion that the government is leading the country back to borrowing, back to the memorandum "for the next year at least" because if we have a smaller primary surplus, this would mean that we will not be able to cover part of the interests".

Samaras said he wished "the referendum or early elections issue to have been closed" but "members of the government bring it back every day" which as he said is adding uncertainty to the economy and suffocation to the market.

Asked on the proposal for the setting of an examination committee for the memorandum he noted "We have nothing to hide. On the opposite we have a lot to say...".

Concluding, he announced that ND's parliamentary group will convene next week to discuss changes in persons and on the party's operation.
