  • [01] Four penitentiary officers arrested in relation to Vicky Stamati's escape

ANA/MPA---Western Attica Police on Thursday arrested four penitentiary officers that were responsible for guarding Vicky Stamati, wife of the jailed former minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, who escaped from Dromokaitio Psychiatric Hospital.

According to the case file, the four penitentiary officials, who were doing the two out of the three shifts guarding Stamati, will be taken to the prosecutor possibly later in the day.

Stamati possibly escaped between 1.30 and 5.00 on Thursday morning using the balcony door, whose padlock was found unlocked but not broken. Vicky Stamati left the hospital taking all her belongings with her.

The prosecutor of the Areios Pagos top court Efterpi Koutzamani has already ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into Stamati's escape while the Justice Ministry, according to a statement by Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos, has also ordered an urgent disciplinary investigation into the issue.

[02] Two Albanian nationals arrested in relation with 'Conspiracy of Cells of Fire' terror group

ANA/MPA---The Counter-Terrorism Squad early on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both Albanian nationals, on the charges of supplying the "Conspiracy of Cells of Fire" organization with a weapon.

The police clarified that the weapon was not found in the possession of the two persons but they had already given it to the terror group and for this reason the special appeals examining magistrate issued arrest warrants against them.

Police is currently searching their house while the two persons will be sent to Athens Appeals Prosecution possibly in the afternoon.

[03] We are bound by confidentiality terms, FinMin Varoufakis says

ANA/MPA---Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis on Thursday speaking to Parliament said that the public opinion cannot be informed by websites on the negotiation with the partners.

New Democracy deputy Yiannis Voutsis had earlier said that deputies are informed on the government's proposals on the Internet.

"This was not our choice, we are bound by confidentiality terms. I think that this confidentiality affects the interests of Europe and that these leaks undermine the confidence in the institutions," Varoufakis said and added that the Greek government had asked several times for the proposals to be published.

Regarding Peter Spiegel's report in the Financial Times, he said that the proposals had not been leaked by the Greek government.

"This sort of supposedly confidential procedure undermines the relations of the countries of the European Union," the minister underlined.
