  • [01] Holy Light to arrive in Athens from Jerusalem on special flight

ANA-MPA -- The Holy Light, also known as Holy Fire, was lit in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III and delivered to the faithful waiting outside.

After the end of the ceremony, the Patriarch delivered the Holy Light to the Greek MP Yiannis Amanatidis, who was representing the Greek State, so that he might carry it back to Greece on a special flight, where it will be received with head of state honours.

The delegation that received the Holy Light also included a representative of the Glyfada Metropolitan Paul representing the Orthodox Church of Greece and the Holy Sepulchre's Exarch in Greece, Archmandrite Damianos.

[02] Greek drugs squad seizes 300 kilos of heroin in trucks in port of Patras

ANA - MPA -- Greek Drugs Squad seized a total of more than 300 kilos of heroin hidden in two trucks at the port of Patras which were about to board a ship to Italy, authorities said on Friday, adding that the police operation is still underway.

Police has arrested the two truck drivers, who are Slovak nationals, while authorities from Athens and Patras are continuing their joint operation to dismantle the organised drug trafficking ring believed to be directing drugs to Greece and other European countries.

According to sources, more drugs were located elsewhere and further arrests have been made, but further details are expected to be revealed on Saturday when the police investigation is completed.
