[01] Merkel: 'Substantial exchange of views' with Tsipras
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday upon her arrival at the EU
Council said that she had a "substantial exchange of views" with Prime
Minister Alexis Tsipras on Wedensday.
Merkel said that she has the feeling that there is willingness for close
cooperation between Greece and the institutions. The German Chancellor
also expressed her hope "everything to be made in the right way."
[02] Moscovici: Significant progress in the negotiations over the
last weeks
"Significant progress has been made in the negotiations over the last
weeks," European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Pierre Moscovici
said in statements to French radio station RTL, on the negotiations
between Athens and its creditors.
"I really like the Greek ancient drama, but I think this time we need
a happy end", he said.
"If there is political will, we can and will have an outcome," he
added. But "we are not yet at this point."
The negotiations held in recent weeks "allowed to have an important
bridging of views. There are still gaps, particularly in what we call
primary surpluses, the budget surpluses that Greece must achieve,"
explained the Commissioner.
"We really need to reach a stable agreement so that all these are
economically viable" for Greece, for creditors and "for taxpayers who
will ultimately bear the cost in case of non-payment of the Greek debt,"
he added.
